As an organization located in one of East Oakland’s target areas, we are keenly aware of the challenges this community faces: prostitution, drug trafficking and addiction, dog fighting, HIV/AIDS infection, homelessness, academic underachievement and family dysfunctions of every type. According to recent statistics the city of Oakland ranks 9th out of 100, as one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. Therefore, Oakland needs this facility as much as its residents, to be a beacon of hope and a source of pride. It is our hope that our work within the community will impact some of these challenges given the space and staff to host and house some of this transformative work.
